Discover a
World of Local History

Arthur L Clamp had a passion for local history. He loved to ask questions, digging deeper into people’s stories and finding ways to record them for future generations to enjoy. During his lifetime he published around 150 different books, some of which he wrote himself and others based on the research of people he’d met along the way. This website aims to restore his research so that more people can truly appreciate their own local heritage.

Book Spotlight:
Blitz of Plymouth 1940-44

Plymouth was described as the worst blitzed city in the country; an unenviable reputation for the place which in the early days had rather complacently regarded itself so far removed from the seat of hostilities as to be comparatively safe from air attacks. Arthur L Clamp was a local historian who passed away in 2001. His family are now reviving his publishing legacy through The Arthur L Clamp Collection. This was his most popular book and includes new bonus pages that provide insight into his life. The podcast and video have been generated by NotebookLM using the content from this book.

Who we are

Restoring The Clamp Collection is an ongoing project being run by Steven Gibson, Arthur’s Grandson, with the support and blessing of the family.
